A growing collection of original charcoal portraits exploring texture, shadow, and human presence.
Macro Detail · 1:1 Scale CropMy work is rooted in Soulink—a direct approach to portraiture that strips away decorative polish to find what is genuine beneath the surface. Using raw vine, compressed charcoal, and dense carbon, each drawing begins in chaos and deep darks before form is pulled forward through deliberate erasure.
I focus on figurative studies that hold quiet tension: an averted gaze, a momentary tilt of the head, or the stillness between expressions. The goal is not photographic replication, but an honest translation of human vulnerability and weight directly onto heavy paper.

“The final portrait is not an illustration; it is a physical encounter carved into paper.”
My work begins with observation, but rarely ends there. Working primarily in charcoal and graphite, I let raw gesture, paper grain, and intentional erasure remain visible—favoring psychological presence over photorealistic precision.

Finding character and weight beneath surface contours.

Letting dynamic hand pressure retain raw movement.

Building tone through repetitive mark-making and erasure.

Leaving breathing room rather than over-rendering edges.

Direct review of reference photographs, tonal direction, sheet scale, and framing requirements.
Execution on archival ground. Interim progress scans are shared as foundational hadows and contours take shape.
